In 2017, Jessica Newsom knew she wanted to dance in the streets of Baton Rouge. Since dancing in the streets without cause is often frowned upon, she decided to start her own dance krewe. After consulting with her friends, the name, "BeignYAYS" was suggested and the colors teal and gold were decided upon! Fun fact, other names suggested included the "Moon Pies" and "Mint Juleps" and our colors were almost orange and gold.
Our first parade we ever danced in was the Fifolet Halloween Parade in 2017 and our first dance ever created was, “Give it to me baby!” by Rick James and it was an umbrella dance.
In 2020, Jessica decided to create a BeignYAY Board to assist with all aspects of running the BeignYAYS. The Board is by appointment only and while the Board does vote, Jessica still gets deciding say in all decisions.
